Helpful Resources

Recovery can seem like a daunting journey, but with the help of trusted resources, we can find the support and guidance we need. Here are some of the resources that have personally helped me and others on our path to healing and growth. It took me almost five years to take my first step to recovery. I would look at resource pages like this but never committed - until I did!

Throughout your journey in recovery, you meet some unlikely but most incredible people. I remember sitting in one of my first AA meetings straight out of rehab, listening to this optimistic, bubbly character, and thinking, how can I relate to this person? She is too happy, too nice, too put together. But when she got to the nitty gritty of her story, I could hear that desperate cry she once had, and recognized it as the one still screaming in my own soul. It is through connections like these, through the power of vulnerability, that you see the truth that addiction is not subjected to one type or class of people. Behind every smile, there is a silent narrative. Never judge a book by its cover; you never know the story that lies beneath the smile.

Amy Busch, the speaker in my story, founded Resources4Recovery in 2015. She has dedicated her life to supporting individuals and their families who struggle with addiction. Resources4Recovery is a non-profit organization that aims to provide an accessible, easy-to-navigate resource hub to individuals and families searching for effective treatment.

AA is more than just a place to share your problems with others. It's a message of hope and freedom from addiction. Don't be fooled by the stereotype of old-timers talking about their struggles - AA meetings are a welcoming community of people from all backgrounds who are ready to share their experience, strength, and hope with you. Give it a try and see for yourself the power of vulnerability and the strength of the AA community.

One of the resources we recommend is the official AA website for central Massachusetts, AAboston. The meetings tab allows you to search for registered AA meetings in the area. Don't be afraid to navigate through the filters! The "Any Type" filter allows you to narrow your search with your needs and preferences. There is even a category for "Young People." Remember, seeking help is a brave step and we applaud you for taking that step.

Different Approaches To Recovery

Did You Know??

Recovery is not a one-size-fits-all process; there are various approaches to consider. While AA and NA are popular choices, they’re not the only option. For example, Celebrate Recovery is a faith-based approach rooted in biblical principles. Meanwhile, Recovery Dharma is founded on Buddhist principles. Smart Recovery uses scientific principles and tools to help change destructive behavior. Choosing the right approach is crucial, and I encourage everyone to do their own research to find what works for them.

Below, I have listed a few approaches and websites to help you navigate!

1. Alcoholic Anonymous

2. Narcotics Anonymous

3. Celebrate Recovery
